I like capturing that which I think is beautiful to share with others. My most gratifying moments are when I can make someone happy by capturing their image after they have said they feel they always look terrible in pictures. It is partly for this reason that I prefer to use models who have little or no modeling experience. When I set up a shoot, I do not generally have a clear image in my head of what I am trying to accomplish – more often I have a general idea of a feeling I would like to capture, or of a setting that I would like to create. I encourage my subjects to add their creativity to the scene, so that the final product is not just my work, but the combined vision of everyone involved in the shoot. My job is to help guide the creation, and capture the best moments. Some of my pieces are heavily edited, and some of them are presented straight from the camera. Special effects created during photo editing can be lovely, and can help create a surreal impression when that is the feeling I want to convey. But there are plenty of occasions when special effects are simply not needed.
